Ra Fiesta

Ra Fiesta, a celebration to commemorate Raymond's 21st was held officially on 08/06/08. A day where the stars were aligned and all things nice. With the gathering of the six, the fiesta began...

Met at Clarke Quay MRT station for light lunch at the Central. Wouldn't really considered light as it was a subway meal: fulfilling sandwich with the yummy cookies...

Next stop: Settler's cafe

Our first time at Settler's for board games. Our first game, after introduced, was quickly put aside as we deemed it boring. Thus, next game: Taboo!

Woops...
Pairing with Raymond for Taboo was intimidating. "Where! Where is it!" Raymond chanted, using his intense glare, hands banging the table and maybe even telepathic powers to force me to say bus-stop. Totally hilarious. Then there's Aaron saying "hinny-hinny" as a clue for pony, amidst rounds of laughter. To think that Eugene could guess it correctly.
Some games later, we ended up playing Brainstrain, a little literal if I would say so myself.

Ouch!

Hint: Celebrity... Monkey...?

How could anyone guess Nicole Kidmen when clues like celebrity and monkey were given. Tough luck for Eugene on guessing it, and all thanks to Raymond.

The 6 of us

After an exciting 3 hours at Settler's, it was time for the main event of the day: Dinner buffet at Carousel.

Carousel, with its wide international spread, was definitely high-end enough for Raymond, the tai-tai wannabe. As the official words were announced, the feast began.

Fresh Seafood
Personally, I am not a fan of fresh seafood. However, the fresh oysters were totally different from what I had before. No fishy taste and definitely fresh. Evidence: Raymond was helping himself to four servings of seafood. What a pig.

Truffle-infused with shitake mushroom

The nicest soup I ever had in a restaurant. Not too much as it was very filling.

Salad

Greens are not what I will usually put into my mouth. As what Aaron and Jay mentioned themselves, any more [greens], they are going to be cows. Carousel has a couple of interesting dressings for its greens. Settled for mushrooms instead, and they are not too bad.

Chicken rice

Chicken rice, a local favourite, is a common site in restaurants, but not when they are mini rice balls and four different selection of meats to choose from. Not too bad, but not very impressive either as the rice was a little hard. The meat was quite delicious though.

Bolognaise

Unlike most buffet where you have to mix the cooked pasta and limited variety of sauce yourself, at Carousel, they have a chef to prepare your orders. Cooking the pasta, warming the sauce, adding a little herbs, salt, I was very impressed and intrigued by the cooking, in fact more than the pasta itself.

From the roast section
The roasted meat was a little let down, or maybe we had too high an expectation. The meat was a little hard, and after a while, I gave up eating them.

Healthy eating with Cha Soba

Settled for something light and supposedly healthy. Made from buckwheat flour and green tea, Cha soba was created for those health conscious ones. If healthy food equates to bland and tasteless, I am definitely staying at the dessert section.

Desserts

And more desserts...

The fondue

So much desserts to choose from. And they are very smart, serving them in small glasses, allowing one to have more than one go at the section. No wonder the desserts ran out so quickly. A little sad that we started a bit late of desserts and have to settle for limited variety. It's alright, as there was always the fondue to save the day.

Spent a total of fours hours at Carousel, definitely the longest lasting customers there. Lol, so much food, so much fun. It has been a long time since we had a good buffet.
