Played some silly games in the morning such as hello kitty, followed by 5BX. Group reflection later, it's time to head back to our cutter.
Was learning the jib and have to say that my group mates were really good teachers. I think it has to do with the willingness to learn and try. A great day ahead, or so I thought, and we set sail.
Dark menacing clouds overhead that stretched for miles to come and our cutter was trapped in the midst of it. Lightning strikes threatened to hit us. Even though we were fighting against mother nature, and everyone was really tired and affected by the heavy downpour, the sense of urgency was there. Everything must be done quickly as our lived were in danger. All the sails must be lowered, anchors put out and body off the floorboard. It was while lowering the main sail that the lightning almost struck us and we could feel the static. Really frightening, thought that I was going to die. It was really due to everyone's effort that we remained safe. It was definitely something that I don't want to experience again. With each other and the poncho as our only shelter, we huddled close for warmth and security. It was only an hour later that we were safe to sail again. Really thank god for that.
Night came and we set up at Sembawang camp site. After a hearty meal of rice and canned food (it was really delicious) and feeling the need to sleep, we were told that the island was 'sinking' and that we only had half an hour to escape. 'So army,' that was what I thought. Like a drill, we quickly tore down everything and head back to our cutter. No easy considering that there was so much things and it was at night, but nobody was complaining. The adrenaline rush and helpfullness of everyone cheered us from tiredness.
A cold and rocky night on board the cutter as we secured the tarp over our heads to keep us dry from the possible rain. Clearly squeezing (have difficulty turning my body), we endured and enjoyed the night together as one watch.
