Synopsis:
A crude love note and many misunderstood scenes led Briony Tallis, a 13 years old writer-to-be, to believe that the housekeeper's son, Robbie Turner (James McAvoy), had sexually assaulted her cousin. The police, believing the immature perspective of Briony, arrested Robbie, forever separting him and his love, Cecilia Tallis (Keira Knightly). Over the years, over world war 2, Briony reflected upon her lies, coming to an emotional and heartfelt ending.
Review:
It is amazing how a simple storyline can be so engaging as it explores in detail the emotions of the individuals. Young Briony (Saoirse Ronan) is especially believeable as a child whose spoilt-brat attitude insisted that Robbie is guilty. A dying Briony (Vanessa Redgrave) is compelling and sincere in her acting. Credits to James McAvoy and Keira Knightly for making their love story and their separation so sentimental, making you feel for them. The film was beautiful and with its well-placed flashbacks, it allowed the audience to reflect upon the scene. A show that deserves its numerous nominations and a must watch.
