Touched

It was the second day of my giving-out-newspaper job. It was at Pasir Ris, a super far place away from home. I would have thought it would have been another boring day, another day where I will give out the papers with a fake smile plastered on my face. However, that was not the case. Actually, I felt happy giving out the papers and I have to thank this particular stranger for it. This stranger is no doubt a stranger, just passing by Pasir Ris. However, this special someone actually said thanks to me after receiving his papers. I was almost shocked, but definitely happy to hear that rare utter of acceptance. That. I think, is what's lacking in our culture. We tend to focus on ourselves and forget to appreciate the service provided. It takes only a simply thank you to brighten up other people's day.

Movie: The Golden Compass (RTA)

Synopsis:
Northern Lights, the first of His Dark Materials trilogy, is about the girl Lyra finding out about the truth of the GOBlers, her parents, leading to a bold adventure to the arctic. Along the way, gypsies, witches and an exiled ice bear accompany her journey to save her friends and discover the truth.

Review:
Those who think that the Golden Compass will be the next Lord of the Rings, you may be in for a little disappointment. However, I have to say that the Golden Compass is rather decent. It has a great plot and an even better casts: Nicole Kidman as the wonderfully psychotic Mrs Coulter, Daniel Craig as the guardian Lord Asrial, Sir Ian Mckellen as the imposing ice bear and newcomer Dakota as Lyra. Personally, I didn't like Lyra as I find her to be too independent. As the first movie of the trilogy, most of the characters appear briefly with little character development. Perhaps more in the sequel.

PALSIIWJAE 2007

Our very first StAJeWorks Alumni gathering at Coasta Sands Resort. It was a fun-filled event, with alumni members from over the years gathered in the significantly small room. A pity some of the alumni members could not join us. However, it is still fun, fun and more fun. We played several games such as taboo and charades and I was in the winning team. Charades was especially fun with all the random clues and weird acting from all of us. We had an informal introduction of the members present in the room. A little hard to coordinate though. Well, all good things will come to an end. Before long, most have to leave. The rest who stayed behind, including me, chatted over fun and serious stuffs. Learnt about many things from many people whom I rarely talked to. For now, it is a good start.
